Primitive Fired Wild Clay Pendants

Recently while hiking through the forest at the Caw Caw Interpretive Center, a bit south of Charleston, South Carolina on route 17, I came across some beautiful clay at the base of a fallen oak tree. The clay was retained in the roots and had been unearthed from beneath the dark, swampy topsoil.

It stood out to me and after wandering through the woods playing with some of it, I returned for more.  Now some of that terrific wild clay subsoil has been sculpted into pendants and undergone a primitive firing process. Here are some of the results:
